The Friends of the Aigantighe Art Gallery
Who are the Friends? The Friends were founded in 1976 and they vigorously support Gallery staff. The voluntary organisation is dedicated to encouraging interest in the visual arts and maintaining the excellence of this public gallery.
Our members participate in gallery-based programmes: exhibition previews, and they extend the work of the gallery through organisational efforts and contributions. We run the very special Art Car Project, an outreach vehicle which appears at public festivals and special Gallery events.
There is more than meets the eye on a visit to the Aigantighe. As well as curating exhibitions, the staff manage an incredible permanent art collection that has accumulated over the last 100 years. Many of the pieces have been donated by Friends members and the committee, who continue to raise funds for artworks conservation so that the asset will be available to not only inspire the people of today but future generations at Aigantighe.
We sponsor four special exhibition openings per year. Two newsletters per year are sent out by the Gallery and invitations to approximately four to five of these openings. We really enjoy being part of the festivities
and playing a major role in supporting the gallery. Ultimately helping to grow the
love of arts in the community. View the Friends of the Aigantighe Brochure
